Pre-civil war dress (1850-1860)

Description

Pre-civil war dress (1850 circa) sewn in white cotton. The outfit consists in a white cotton petticoat, a cotton skirt trimmed with lace and satin ribbons, a bodice and cotton undersleeves. The bodice is fully lined in cotton, boned on the back, front and sides and closes with taffeta covered buttons. The edges of the bodice and the lapels are trimmed in black. The sleeves are trimmed with white lace, unfortunately not visible in the photo. Skirt hem is faced inwards and reinforced with black cotton bias tape.
This gown required two weeks of full work and most of the work (as the pleating process) has been done by hand. The matching bonnet and the purse are handmade as well.
I'm planning a matching evening bodice too to complete the wardrobe ;)
